Full integration of Moodle with Capita SIMS.net (SIMS)

Between 80-90% of UK schools currently use SIMS, and until now transferring information from SIMS into Moodle was a manual process. This is no longer the case as our integration software can automate the procedure.

This much awaited integration is now possible for Moodle and SIMs users as our software provides live access into SIMS, enabling the transfer of SIMS data into Moodle

As part of the requirement for real-time reporting to parents, secondary schools (by 2010) and primary schools (by 2012) have to integrate their Management Information System (MIS) with their Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Moodle and SIMS integration will allow schools to meet the government’s 2010 real-time reporting targets.

The integration is achieved through official interfaces and not via the database.

SIMS and Moodle integration enables:

• Parents to have their own automatically created account which allows them to see attendance data on their children
• Automated user account generation & synchronisation. SIMS data will populate user accounts in Moodle and will automatically update when a change is made in SIMS
• Automatic creation & maintenance of Moodle courses via linking with SIMS groups

Future developments will include:

• Timetables automatically populated in Moodle. This will allow students to view their own timetable, parents to view their child’s timetable & teachers to view their own timetable plus any pupil timetable
• Assessments and certification, reporting and behavioural data will all be available in Moodle
• Instant SMS system will bridge the gap between schools and parents. If a child misses class or school, an instant text message will alert the parents.
